Are They Bunk or Are They Bops?
The First Rose Of Spring - Willie Nelson
This album was supposed to be released on July 24 but was postponed until July 3 and being his first album since 2015 I don’t think he disappointed. How can you not enjoy classic country music with Willie Nelson. There's nothing fake about the music he makes no snap tracks, just steel guitars, harmonicas, drums and 3 cords and the truth. This album by no means will get your party started but if you enjoy sitting back and listening to some slow classic country music then you will love this album.
I’d give the album a solid 3/5 just because there are some solid songs on this album and it would be difficult to say I didn’t enjoy the album. But this album would be directed at the older generation of country music fans just because it doesn’t have the same style of songwriting and producing of what is now being played on country radio.
Songs I enjoyed from the album
First Rose Of Spring
Don’t Let The Old Man In
We Are The Cowboys
Love Just Laughed
HeartBeat Higher EP - Eric Paslay
This album has only 4 songs but has some very solid songs with strong melodies and some catchy hooks. It has an even mix of upbeat feel good songs and slow down and think type of songs. It’s definitely an album that’s worth listening to.
Overall I’d give the album a solid 4/5 just because the songs are super solid but it was just an EP so there weren't enough songs to give it a better rating.
Songs I enjoyed from the album
Heartbeat Higher (feat Sarah Buxton)
On This Side Of Heaven
Boat In A Bottle
If That Ain’t God - Chris Young
This songs about god if you couldn’t tell from the title. Chris sings about god's will and how god is watching over everyone and how god is behind all the good things that happen. This song’s a bit too preachy for my taste but I do enjoy the beat and how the drums are very pronounced throughout the song.
Overall I’d give the song a 2/5 just because the song is way too religious but given the song's name is “If That Ain’t God” it should be a given.
Seaside - Billy Currington
This song is a great summer song and can play this song on road trips and at the beach with friends enjoying the sun. I really liked when he slowed down and started talk singing basically like Jake Owen in his song “Beachin”. It’s more of a pop country song like what would be on country radio and written for mass appeal but the song is still overall very catchy and something I would want to play at the beach or in the car.
Overall I’d give the song a solid 2.5/5 because it is catchy and something I would want to play at the beach. But it’s not a song that I would want to go back through my playlist 2 months later and want to listen to.
Thank You Lord - Chris Tomlin feat Thomas Rhett and Florida Georgia Line
Another religious song this week which is kind of funny. This song does have some of the biggest names in country music right now being Thomas Rhett and Florida Georgia Line who are the two of the best pop/country writers out there right now. This song does have a snap track which I’m not a huge fan of just because the snap track makes every song have the same beat which in turn makes them mostly sound the same. It’s not as preachy as “If That Ain’t God” which makes it a little easier to listen to and it does have catchy hooks and lyrics.
Overall I’d give the song a 2/5 because of how preachy it is and the snap track. On the other hand it does have a catchy hook and is well written. If you don’t mind how preachy it is, you’ll like this song.
