#6 - Best New Hip-Hop/Rap Songs (feat. A$AP Ferg, DaBaby, Murda Beats, Don Toliver) - July 31st

Move Ya Hips - Single by A$AP Ferg (Feat. Nicki Minaj & Madeintyo)
I find that the entire structure of this song is trying too hard to be a hit single. To start, I fail to understand why Nicki Minaj decided to say “Fergieeeee, come out and playyyyy”, in such a crazed and evil way. It lowkey made me laugh a bit. Not to mention the repetitive hook performed by Madeintyo. The hook misses the mark of being catchy and instead proves to be annoying. On top of all that, the production is hard to decipher whether it’s enjoyable or not. It could go either way to be honest. But what makes the song listenable, is A$AP Ferg. His solo verse is pretty solid, while he also does a nice job at trading lines with Nicki during her verse.
Overall, this song should’ve been better than how it turned out, and for that, I’m gonna give it a 5.6/10.
NO DRIBBLE - Single by DaBaby (feat. Stunna 4 Vegas)
Another monotone Dababy song. It’s become absolutely apparent to me that DaBaby boasts high skill but lacks creativity. This is apparent to how he shines as a feature on other artists' songs, but pretty much all of his own songs sound identical. Sticking to his formula flow with another boring beat, this is sure to be another filler song you hear in the background of a house party. Stunna 4 Vegas provides a refreshing break from the too familiar DaBaby flow.
Gonna give this a 5.6/10.
Doors Unlocked - Single by Murda Beats (feat. Ty Dolla $ign & Polo G)
Murda Beats sets the stage with a laid back, summer RnB type beat, with appropriate choices of Ty Dolla $ign and Polo G. Ty Dolla $ign does his thing, and adds to the whole “summer feel” of this song. Polo G adds a verse near the end, and it’s even more apparent why he’s regarded as one of the best new artists to hit the scene. A very solid song, you best bet I added it into my summer playlist.
Gonna give this a 8.1/10.
Clap - Single by Don Toliver
I wish this song was longer. Don Toliver doesn’t seem to miss. Even on a track that’s promoting a movie, he still manages to do his thing. He always manages to find a flow that always fits the sound of the track. The production on this is very impressive, and it melds well with Don's style. Just a good sounding track that doesn’t have any noticeable flaws.
Gonna give this a 8.3/10 as well.
Death Enclaimed - Single by YoungBoy Never Broke Again
I think NBA YoungBoy has a solid amount of skill, but just like DaBaby, he lacks creativity. Every creatively constructed song by him has been a hit or at least stood out. This isn’t the case with this song. Just another tragic sounding beat with aggressive rapping by NBA YoungBoy, while also mixing in a bit of misplaced singing. Your typical re-skinned YoungBoy song.
Gonna give this a 5.4/10.
